My definition of meditation.

So, what is meditation? It's a term that is widely used in spirituality. The perception of what meditation looks like, is lying down with music, with candles and maybe crystals, or sitting in a lotus position, doing mudras for 30 minutes or longer every day, in an attempt to block out many thoughts. For many people, this is an impossible task because, on average, we have between 12,000 and 60,000 thoughts a day!

It's tough to get to the space of nothingness, or at the very least no attachment to the thoughts that do arise, especially for overthinkers like me. In the early days, I would end up having an argument in my head about my thoughts not shutting up, and I was not in a relaxed meditative state! I persevered and found that guided meditations worked much better for me as it was a very visual process, so it gave my mind a job to do a specific focus instead of the random shit like; what to make for tea when I haven't even had breakfast yet!

It wasn't until I delved into the world of shamanism and journeyed with the sacred medicine of the drum, as the rhythm of the monotonous beats lowers your brain waves to alpha and then theta, the hypnotic meditative state, this is when meditation started to change for me. I would go off so deep that I wouldn't be consciously aware or remember anything; 40 minutes could have passed, and it felt like 10 minutes. Sometimes, I would find it difficult to ground back into my body afterward and I would feel quite spaced out. But I would always ask questions that I needed answers to before I embarked on these shamanic journeys and sure enough, in the days that followed, the answers would arrive, in many different forms. They would come through intuition, feelings, knowings, or ideas and inspiration. Often enough the answers would come from other people, signs, synchronicities, animals, or technology.

It was these deep meditations that prepared me for channeling wisdom, light language, and my healing voice tones. It did take me a very long time to be able to enter that space of being completely present without thoughts. But now I understand that meditation is a state of being. It doesn't have to be a structured practice for 30 minutes a day, it's a state of being that you can choose to experience on command, any time of the day! Meditation is simply being present, aware, and fully experiencing every now moment in the flow. This state of being is easy when you are engaging in your passions when you seamlessly step outside of time and feel pure joy. It could be through music, dance, art, animals and nature. Even through creativity, cooking, cleaning, and physical activity. The list is endless!

I think we get so caught up in survival mode, doing things we don't want to do, just to make money to pay the bills. We forget about the importance of just being and giving soul nourishment to ourselves. The more time you can spend doing the things that light you up inside, the more opportunities to do what you love, you will attract. It's the law of magnetism! And this is what I have learned from my own experiences.

What is meditation to you? What have you learned from your experiences? Are they similar or completely different?

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Bright blessings,

Claire.
